happy birthday to me & one day’s wages

Bam. Just like that, I am now 39 years old. Still looking young albeit with two dysfunctional Achilles.  Since it’s my birthday today, I’m cashing in your graces and all those favors and ask that you not only read this blog entry but take 5 minutes to help spread the word about One Day’s Wages.

As most of you know, my wife and I and a small but growing group of team members are excited to announce the launch of One Day’s Wages – an international grassroots movement dedicated to ending extreme global poverty. There are approximately 1.4 billion people living in extreme global poverty (those who live on less than US$1.25/day).

Here are 4 simple ways you can help:

1. Visit the website and create an account.

2. Think about making a donation. Calculate your day’s wages on the website or make another donation. You can choose to invest in one of the organizations/projects highlighted on the website.  I know some of you are sick of hearing about it but we’re not asking you to do something we’re not willing to do ourselves. We’ve chosen to donate our 2009 salary to the fight against extreme global poverty and invite you to join us by donating one days’ wages = approximately 0.4% of your annual salary.  100% of your donations (minus transaction costs) go directly to projects.

3. Be a FAN on Facebook.

4. Spread the word. Use the tools on our website to spread the movement with your friends and network. You can follow us on Twitter.

We know that the issues are very complex but it’s also very simple:

It shouldn’t be this way and doesn’t have to be this way. The world has the capacity to end extreme global povert.

The good news is that there are individuals and orgs that are doing some wonderful work. Our goal isn’t to re-invent the wheel but rather to partner and collaborate.

You in?

With gratitude,
eugene, minhee, & the ODW team
